Thankful for Rest

Welcome to Connections2Excellence! Thank you for being here. May you be refreshed today.

There is just not enough time in the day! Work. School. Life demands. It never stops. There is no end in sight.

Does this sound familiar? Sometimes it seems life is a constant roller coaster. So much to do, so little time. Realistically, one can be an energetic bunny only for so long until the bunny has to stop.

Not long ago I was feeling this way. Thankfully, I was able to take a break. So I drove a couple of hours from the hustle and bustle of life to get away from it all and hang out with a dear friend. Of course, we had to have our nice, long walk. And coffee. And time to just talk.

One of her words of wisdom was the importance of taking time to rest. Yes, rest. “How is rest even possible,” you ask? It’s not easy, is it? Yet, it has to be done for our sanity, our mental and physical health. Plus, we were created to need it.

So, I am thankful—and becoming more thankful—for REST.

R – Make time to relax, refresh, recharge. Whether it’s an afternoon nap, a spa day, or just driving a few miles to take a walk. Do something you enjoy.

E – Make time to energize. Resting is not necessarily sitting around doing nothing. One way of resting could actually include exercise. After a nice walk outdoors or workout, the body is refreshed and energized. It can actually help one sleep. Listening to music or an inspirational podcast can also help mentally focus.

S – Make time to stop and be still. Sometimes, the body is so exhausted it has to stop. Take another nap. Take a long bubble bath. Read a book. Turn off the television, social media, and the phone. Enjoy the quiet.

T – Make time. This is probably the most difficult. The key is being intentional.

Our Connections Challenge: Intentionally make time to rest this week.
