As we approach this Easter season, many choose to observe Lent. This is a forty-day period in which one chooses to fast from a food or activity and replace it with reflecting on Jesus’ sacrifice for us.
A season of fasting is deeply personal. Because it is so personal, Matthew 6:16 encourages those who fast to not brag about it in order to draw attention to themselves. The time we normally spend eating or engaged in an activity is replaced with focusing on God.
Our Faith Connections Challenge: What food or activity would you choose to avoid during this season of Lent? Read Isaiah 58, and reflect on its message. How does it challenge you?
