The rewards of obedience

The story of Abram/Abraham is an example of obedience. God told Abram to pack his possessions, leave his home, and move his family to a place that was unfamiliar. He did not even know where he was going—and he obeyed.

How are you challenged by Abram’s example?

After fulfilling a long-awaited dream, I felt the Lord encouraging me to go further. It was not something I had planned to pursue. Yet, the Lord would not let me rest until I took action and obeyed. Moments after completing the last task, yes, I was relieved. I also had the joyful satisfaction of knowing that I did my best and was obedient to what God asked of me.

How do you feel when you are obedient? Are you satisfied, joyful, or relieved?

God also told Abram that he would be the father of many nations. What a reward! Abram’s response? Even though he did not see the great number of descendants, he believed God. Romans 4:20-25 says that Abram knew God would fulfill His promise. It is the same response as those who followed years later. Hebrews 11 gives us a glimpse of others who displayed a life of obedience and faith. They obeyed. They believed God.

Faith Connections Challenge: What about you? Have you been asked to take a step of faith not knowing the outcome? Would you follow the examples of those who have gone before us in obeying and believing God? Read their stories. Take that step of faith.
