Intentional Change

Gracie is a senior manager. She earned that position by working hard and placing high demands on her teams. Her speech is blunt, direct, and sometimes offensive. Her team experiences high turnover because of her leadership.

There could be a lot happening behind the scenes. Here are some ideas.

Gracie allows her job to be her life, thus her time focuses on work. Because of the team’s high turnover, the work demands are too much. She wants to succeed. She cares about her team but does not have the leadership training to build teams and relationships. Personally, as a result, Gracie is struggling with her marriage and children. She’s tired and weary.

What would you recommend for Gracie? What is preventing her from living a more fulfilled life?

Gracie has some choices to make that could improve her life. Here are some suggested steps that Gracie could take.

* Make time with her husband to discuss solutions for a work and home plan that gives her time at home and away from the office environment. This would relieve some of the stress and give her time to refresh and enjoy the family.

* Meet with the members of her team individually and in small groups to build connections. This could improve team morale and enhance the team. As a leader, it helps her to learn the strengths, weaknesses, and assets of her team.

* Participate in leadership workshops to learn how to build relationships with her team. This promotes continuous learning, an effort to lead her team more effectively, and reduce turnover.

Connections Challenge: Maybe you know someone like Gracie. Be the best you can be for your team. Build relationships. Encourage them. Support them. Ask them how you can help.
