Welcome to Faith Connections Friday!
We are in a series for the next several weeks focusing on Psalm 119. If you would like to read ahead, read the entire psalm or a section each week. We are so glad you are here and hope you enjoy the series! Thank you!
Once we are able to focus intently on a project, we eliminate as many distractions as we possibly can. We may go to a quiet place to decrease or remove noise. We may put on instrumental music to help us focus.
Our focus this week is on Psalm 119:33-40. The psalmist shows the intensity of his focus. He continues to express his desperate longing to know God and His Word. In this passage, he asks God to teach him and give him understanding. When someone requests these of God, it is quite likely that God will answer by presenting opportunities to learn and understand.
The psalmist makes specific requests.
* He asks God for protection.
* He asks God to guard his heart from covetousness, selfish ambition, or envy.
* He asks God to guard his eyes from distractions.
* He asks God to guard his heart from desiring and pursuing unimportant, temporal things and pleasures.
* He asks God to guard his heart from the impact of harmful words of others.
Why does the psalmist make these requests?
* He wants to do everything he can to know and obey God’s Word.
* He wants God’s Word close to his heart and displayed through his thoughts, words, and actions.
* He wants God’s Word to be a source of joy.
* He does not want anything to distract him from God and His Word.
* He wants his life to glorify God.
Faith Connections Challenge: Read the selected passage and focus on what the psalmist is saying and feeling this week. Do you understand and feel the psalmist’s heart? What resonated with you? Reread the passage and make it personal by placing your name where it says “me,” “my,” or “I.”
