Realistic New Year Goals

The new year presents opportunities to set goals that challenge us. We may choose to take steps toward achieving a dream or improving our health. We may choose to take on the challenge of writing a book, taking an arts or culinary class, or trying a new fitness program.

When you have an idea or definitive goal to pursue, we might feel overwhelmed at the challenge of finishing it. To make the goal achievable, start with taking smaller steps and giving yourself a timeline to complete each step.

For example, a common goal is losing weight. What is a realistic goal? If the goal is significant, you cannot lose the weight safely in a short period of time. It takes time to learn new habits to feel healthier and see results.

Here are ideas to keep moving forward. Set shorter goals. Implement one change at a time. Once you reach a goal or are ready to add another change, you will begin seeing results and gaining confidence and encouragement to keep going until your ultimate goal is achieved. Plus, you learn important and lasting lifestyle habits.
