Yes, the holidays are quickly approaching. Are you delighted, or are you irritated that you have one more reminder?

Admittedly, I am a grinch when it comes to the holidays. The busyness. The expectations. Plus, I am definitely not a good shopper nor do I like to shop unless I have a good reason. Thankfully, my husband is the opposite. He is the best. He is the most creative and thoughtful shopper ever!
Whether or not you look forward to the holidays, it is important to take time to enjoy them, make memories, and rest. Here a few ideas to help decrease the stress and have fun.
* Make a schedule. Lay out your plans for the holidays. Decorate. Clean and set up guest rooms a couple of days before guests arrive. Purchase or make gifts early. Plan meals and prepare what you can in advance.
* Invite someone who may be alone for the holidays. Let them participate in the meal preparations and fun. You will be a blessing to them, and they will be a blessing to you.
* Hopefully, there is excitement when family and friends visit. Set up indoor and outdoor games and jigsaw puzzles. This encourages exercise, playful competition, and laughter. Of course, there must be football!
* Plan to deliver or serve meals at a local shelter, truck stop, police station, or fire station. Contact a local church about delivering meals to those who are homebound. Include a simple holiday decoration, gift, or snack.
* An abundance of food is always a hit at the holidays. Encourage children to help set the tables. Let them help with making a dish and following a recipe. Have guests bring part of the meal. Pick up ready-to-serve dishes from the grocer—you don’t have to make it all.
* Have a mini gift wrapping party in a separate room with a supply of gift wrap, bags, and tags. Play soft holiday music to add to the mood.
Whew! I’m exhausted just thinking about this!
* Take a refreshing walk outdoors. The sunshine, crisp air, and exercise do wonders for your body and mindset.
* Nap when the children nap, if possible.
* Go to bed at a reasonable time. Close your eyes, breathe, and rest. Be thankful for the memories and blessings of the day.
