Excellence, learning, Teaching

Invaluable Teachers

Teachers are incredible communicators! They have an amazing way of explaining complex content by breaking it down into smaller components so there is better comprehension for the learners.

In math, for example, teachers know that it is critical for learners to understand the basics before moving to advanced math. Students must practice the same types of problems over and over so the problems become easier and the principles are understood. The same applies to a coach in an athlete’s disciplined physical training. Coaches teach athletes how to strengthen certain areas of their body so they can handle the intensity of an event.

We can connect the same to excelling in business. First, you must learn the basics. Leaders and mentors provide learning opportunities and experiences to increase your skills. As you progress and strengthen your knowledge and expertise, you may receive an opportunity to move to the next level.

A key to excelling in business, or any role, is having someone teach or mentor you along the way. Some organizations pair an experienced employee (the teacher/mentor) with a new employee for a limited time so the new employee can understand the fullness of the organization, team, and specifics of their role.

Connections Challenge: Notice how people in your organization train others. If you have experience or expertise in a certain area, ask if you could be a teacher or mentor to a new employee. Your guidance is invaluable!
