Lessons from Rudolph

One of the enjoyable highlights of the Christmas season is watching the Christmas classics and listening to their beloved songs. Let’s take a brief look at some notable Christmas characters and see what we can learn from them.

The story of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (Marks, 1949; Muller, 1964) explains that this special reindeer had a nose that glowed brightly. The other reindeer ridiculed him because of his special nose. When Santa saw Rudolph’s nose, he gave Rudolph the opportunity to lead the reindeer team on a particularly foggy Christmas Eve. That was a historical night for Rudolph.

What can we learn from this exceptional reindeer?

Each one of us has unique qualities that others may not recognize or value. It may be physical or emotional strength used to help others through a challenging situation. It may be intellectual abilities and experience that allow you to see perspectives that others may not have considered. It may be boldly exercising character and integrity to do what is right.

Connections Challenge: Identify, exercise, and treasure your unique qualities. Who can you encourage to use their qualities? Let them know they are seen and valued.
