Welcome to Faith Connections Friday!
As we come across roads in Scripture, we discover the people that traveled them were specifically placed there for an important purpose. Let’s consider a few.
The road is called the Via Dolorosa, the Way of Suffering. It is the traditional road that Jesus walked on His way to Golgotha. It was His road of destination. He purposefully and willingly walked that road leading to the cross.
On the same day Jesus resurrected, He appeared to two people traveling on the road to Emmaus. Jesus noticed their countenance and asked them why they were sad. They explained the events surrounding Jesus’ death but did not recognize that it was actually Jesus walking with them. They invited Jesus to their home for a meal. When Jesus blessed the bread, they realized it was the resurrected Jesus. Then He vanished before them. They returned to Jerusalem, found the disciples, and told them that Jesus had risen. That road was their destination. They were purposefully placed there to meet the risen Lord Jesus.
The road to Damascus is where Saul (later named Paul) had the vision of Jesus that transformed his life from an unrelenting persecutor to a bold proclaimer of the gospel. As evidence of his conversion, Paul wrote several letters in the New Testament teaching about Christ and how to live the Christian life. That road was Saul’s destination. He was converted to a believer in Christ and forever changed.
Faith Connections Challenge: While on earth, we do not know what is ahead on the roads that we travel. Some of us are walking roads of suffering or hardship. Some of us are walking roads of new and growing faith.
Did you notice Who was walking on each road? Jesus. Whatever road you travel, remember that you are not walking alone. He is walking alongside you and connecting with you.
The connection to excellence is the connection to Jesus. That is the purpose of Faith Connections Friday.
This song by Casting Crowns, “Desert Road,” is a beautiful description of the presence of Jesus walking with us on our road of faith. Be blessed, friend!
