Excellence, kindness

Expressions of Kindness

A young man gives his seat on the bus to an elderly woman. A coworker sends a note to a colleague going through a difficult time. A person stops to help someone with car trouble on the side of the road. A group surprises a person who completes an important achievement. A friend calls just because they were thinking of you.

What do these examples have in common? They are demonstrations of kindness. Acts of kindness cost nothing. They are freely given. Each person who extends kindness gives a part of themselves to express appreciation, sympathy, or empathy to another person. The recipient receives an unexpected gift.

Connections Challenge: Who do you know that may be going through a difficult situation? It could be financial, the loss of a loved one, a rebellious child or parent, or a colleague who is feeling overwhelmed. Who do you know that has a reason to celebrate? It could be a marriage, baby, or personal or professional achievement. Surprise them with a cup of coffee, a gift card, or a small gift that you know they would like. Invite the team or a group of friends to lunch or coffee. Showing your thoughtfulness and kindness is more special and meaningful than you may realize.
